Family members celebrated the 21st birthday of OU meteorology student Nicholas Nair, who died in April, by announcing a scholarship foundation on Monday that will be awarded to three students at OU.
The Nicholas Nair Foundation is the family's way of building a legacy for Nicholas in the schools he attended, Nicholas father Girish Nair said. The foundation will disburse three scholarships for Meteorology students at OU and three scholarships for choir students at Nichola's former high school, Hebron High School, in Carrolton Texas.
OU meteorology student from North Texas killed in crash was chasing his passion, family says
Nicholas Nair and two other students were on their way home from storm chasing in Kansas when their vehicle was hit by a semi-truck.
Carrolton Texas - Hours before his death Nic Nair was storm chasing - and his dream
"Storm chasing was his passion ," his mother Kate Nair. said. "Broadcasting was his passion."
That passion started as a child when Nic and his twin brother, Krishna would sometimes watch The Weather Channel for hours.
"We'd pretend to be like a storm, "Krishna Nair said. "We'd like spin around pretending that we were tornadoes."
Nicholas Nair and 2 others were on interstate 35 heading home from storm chasing when their SUV hydroplaned and then was hit by a semi-truck.
A tight-knit community of weather lovers and storm chasers is grieving after the deaths of three University of Oklahoma meteorology students in a car crash late Friday while returning to Norman from storm chasing in Kansas.
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Nicholas Kumaran Nair, 20, on April 29, 2022.
Nicholas was born August 29, 2001, in Dallas, TX. He graduated from Hebron High School in May of 2020. After high school, he attended The University of Oklahoma in Norman, OU as a student in The School of Meteorology. He was passionate about weather and was on a track for a promising career as your MOST favorite local weatherman.
Nicholas loved life and chasing dreams. He was incredibly driven and didnt let anything hold him down. He never met a stranger and had the most warm and gentle soul. His heart of gold beamed love, kindness, acceptance, loyalty, and pure joy. While we rejoice that Nicholas is with our Heavenly Father, our broken hearts will always love him.
Nicholas Nair, 20 was from Carrollton, Texas. He was a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma majoring in Meteorology. He was also minoring in Geographic Information Systems, Broadcast and Climate Adaptation. Nic, had the perfect personality for a broadcast meteorologist.
He was extremely outgoing and it seemed like he was friends with everyone on campus. He was also a fantastic singer, and said he dreamed of being a "singing meteorologist". He was involved in OU's Scandals and Men's Glee Club. Nic had a goofy sense of humor and never seemed to be in a bad mood. With his constant singing, dancing, silly noises and cackle, there was never a dull moment when he was in the room. Nic was the sunshine of his friend group. I know his family and friends will be deeply missing his brighter personality.
